Traditional Linen Biggins
As THE universal head-wear of Medieval and Renaissance Europe, biggins are indispensable for men, women, and children of all ages and classes. Biggins are also often worn under nicer hats, helmets, coifs and caps to keep sweat and oils from staining them and to help keep the hair neat.
Peasants and children almost always wore the biggins alone, as they had no other cap. Working classes would frequently wear the biggins alone, but perhaps made from nicer fabric or they might add a touch of embroidery to show a higher standing.
Our traditional and durable biggins will be the perfect crowning touch for virtually any European period costume!
The caps are one size fits most, but as always, just email us if you have a special request. Our biggins are completely reversible! They are available in Cotton Muslin and Linen. Tie them for a snug fit or just let the ties hang.
