Lord Morgan's Scottish Highlander Ensemble
Highlanders have been wearing the Great Kilt and its variations for centuries. The great kilt or feileadh mór (big wrap) offered the Scotsman versatility by being a garment, sleeping bag and a protection against inclement weather. By tucking and folding the excess material around the waist and pinning at the chest, pockets were created to hold personal items that probably included anything from bread and cheese to game from a hunt. How the kilt was worn, was to a certain degree, a personal choice and matter of comfort and practicality.
The ancient Great Kilt was made on a 30" wide loom from as much as 8 yards or more of tartan. At 60" wide, our standard great kilt is constructed of a more manageable 4 yard length with beautiful fringes on either end of the fabric. Our model is 6’2” and has plenty of tartan to work with (extra yardage is available below). Complete folding and care instructions are included complimentary with every kilt purchase!
Our tunic has been adorned with a leather thong threaded through durable grommets (for long life) so you can tie the neckline closed. All ensemble tunics are made from natural cotton muslin to roughly approximate the "saffron shirts" and later progenitors worn for centuries. It is extremely comfortable to wear, and is a perfect way to round out your Scottish persona. These tunics are equally at home with a kilt or a pair of trews! The sleeves measure about 21” long from the underarm seam to hem, and the shoulders are wide and roomy. The length from back of the neck to bottom hem is 48” long (15" longer than pictured) and you may select your size. All seams have been serged and the hems finished to provide you with years of wear.
Finally! A Scottish tam o'shanter to complete your Celtic/Scottish ensemble! The dashing tartan ribbon that adorns each of our tams is the crowning touch. Each one is carefully handmade, completely unique and is embellished with a Scottish thistle emblem. It is pinned to the band and can be removed and worn on the kilt or placed wherever you desire on your outfit. The band on the tam is serged and then stitched again for extra durability and is reversible...this tam is made to last! The tam is lined in quality satin. If you prefer a cotton lining, just email and we will substitute it for you. Our tams are made from a high quailty, easy care linen blend* fabric.
